Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today confirmed that the Cabinet has approved the new admission pathways for graduates from Chinese Private Secondary School (SMPC) or holders of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) into public universities. He said all students, regardless of their schooling stream, must meet the basic requirement of passing Bahasa Melayu and History subjects at the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level. “The Cabinet decision on SMPC/UEC comes with the condition that students pass Bahasa Melayu and History subjects in SPM. So, we are giving them space, although perhaps beginning with several courses first, because previously this was not agreed upon. Now, when Chinese schools are accepted, we accept it positively as well. “This does not apply only to SMPC/UEC students, but also to students from Arabic schools, secondary religious schools, tahfiz institutions and others. The same conditions apply, including for Malaysian students in international schools. It’s just that there are still some details being discussed,” he told reporters after officiating the 2026 National Youth Day celebration here today
